Smokers Lines

Smokers Lines are also called vertical lip lines, or peri-oral lines, and these are lines leading out from the mouth, usually most obvious above the upper lip, giving an old and pursed look to the mouth.

Smokers Lines Treatments.

Their appearance can be improved with the use of Botox , as Botox injections targeted in that area will reduce the visibility of the smokers lines.

  • What causes smokers lines?

Rather obviously, smoking is the main culprit, due to the repeated pursing of the lips. However, as with all wrinkles, a part is also played by facial expression, age, genetics and sun exposure.

Smokers’ lines tend to affect more women than men, because the skin structure around the mouth for women is different from mens’ mouths.

  • What is the best treatment for Smokers Lines?

Used in small units, Botox is good for paralysing the muscles around the mouth. This prevents over expression in that area, and re-trains the face to relax. This then softens the vertical lip lines.

Used in conjunction with dermal fillers (see fillers on this site), you will see a considerable improvement, and reduction in smokers’ lines.

  • How long does the effect on smokers lines last?

Fillers will soften the area, plumping out the ridges, and this effect can last up to 18 months. The Botox aspect will last approximately 3-4 months.

  • Are there any side effects to the treatment of smokers’ lines ?

Botox injections are safe, non surgical and approved. When administered, some people experience short term tenderness, with a little swelling. These side effects disappear quickly, and are shown to subside with each treatment.

As this is a treatment dealing with the “pursing” muscles around the mouth, this can impact on some people’s ability to drink through a straw, or pronounce certain letters of the alphabet, such as “p” or “b”.

  • Who will perform the botox injections for smokers lines treatment?

As with all Botox treatments, Botox injections for men and women is performed by one of our qualified practitioners and supervised by Doctor Maria Gonzalez.
