Tear Trough

The best treatment for eliminating the tear trough effect is by use of dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are injectable material made of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in our body. The function of hyaluronic acid naturally in the body is to maintain the skin’s volume and hydration. It is appropriate, therefore, that fillers made from such materials are the products used to plump up, or fill in hollows and creases in the skin in areas which lose fat or internal shape with normal ageing.

Tear Trough Treatments.

This is why these fillers are an obvious choice for the treatment of tear trough. Tear trough is the description given to the depressions that run from the side of the top of the nose and around the under eye area. These areas are sometimes dark or purple in colour, and as such are referred to as “dark circles”. These become more noticeable as the skin sags with age, and have the effect of making you look exhausted.
Treatment with dermal fillers helps to plump up the troughs or hollows, which in turn, helps to diminish the dark circles, making the whole face look immediately fresher, livelier and rejuvenated.

  • How are dermal fillers administered to deal with Tear Trough?

After assessment by one of our qualified practitioners, dermal fillers are administered by way of small injections through a fine needle just above the bone of the eye socket, then massaged into the pocket beneath the eye, plumping up the hollows created by Tear Troughs.

The doctor has control over the volume of filler used, using just the right amount to create a natural – looking effect , concealing the dark circles, and blending into the cheekbones.

  • Is the process of tear trough treatment painful?

Some of the fillers used at the Clinic have inbuilt Lidocaine, an anaesthetic, to help numb the area treated so as to cause minimum discomfort.

Others do not, and so a topical anaesthetic is applied, which has the same effect. The process is comparatively quick, and the Tear Troughs are immediately erased.

  • How long does the Tear Trough treatment last and are there any side effects?

The results are instant, and the effect lasts between 9 – 12 months. Once the injections have been administered, the area may be a little swollen for a short time.

Side effects are rare, as hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in humans, and over time, will be broken down and eliminated naturally through the body.

  • Who will perform the dermal fillers for tear trough treatment?

As with all Dermal Fillers treatments, Tear Trough treatment for men and women is performed by one of our qualified practitioners and supervised by Doctor Maria Gonzalez.
