Protox: men turn to Botox to get ahead at work

Martin Clunes has recently hit the headlines after attempting to claim tax back on a cosmetic procedure he had done. Claiming the work was done to help his career, Clunes is the latest, but certainly not the first male celebrity, to succumb to the pressure of the limelight.

Although the exact procedure Clunes underwent hasn’t been revealed, before and after photos clearly point towards Botox. This isn’t surprising as the number of men choosing to have Botox has significantly increased in recent years. It’s become so common it’s now often dubbed ‘Protox’ or ‘Brotox’.

  • Botox: a common procedure for professional men

It isn’t just male celebrities who are turning to Botox to retain their youthful looks. Lawyers, bankers, sales executives, and other professionals, are also frequently turning to anti-ageing treatments to protect their careers.

Working in a stressful environment does take its toll on the appearance. Worry lines are a particular concern for professional men, adding years onto their overall appearance. Not only that, but these deep, horizontal brow lines can also cause you to appear angry, worried and less dynamic.

Having Botox helps to erase these lines, allowing you to hide expressions such as shock, nerves and judgement. In certain professions, there’s a need to appear straight-faced, so Botox is seen as an ideal solution.

Another reason men turn to Botox is to prevent sweating. Injections into the armpits, halt the sweat glands, enhancing confidence in those who frequently need to greet customers and clients.

  • Helping you to achieve a rejuvenated, youthful look

The forehead is often the first to develop signs of ageing. Over time, the elasticity of the skin weakens and wrinkles naturally start to appear. However, professionals have an increased risk of developing deep horizontal brow lines due to repetitive exaggerated expressions.

Botox can help relax and freeze the muscles, creating a smooth, rejuvenated appearance.

Our medical director Dr Maria Gonzalez is very experienced in Botox treatments and can produce a subtly refreshed appearance without eradicating the natural facial expressions that are essential for communication. Being a non-invasive procedure, patients can have the injections on their lunch break and be back in work within an hour. The results are often immediate, but may take up to five days to fully show.

  • How often will it need to be done?

If you’re considering having Botox, it’s important to understand that it is a temporary solution. This means that in order to continually benefit from a rejuvenated, youthful appearance, you will need to have the treatment re-done every three to six months.

Overall, Botox is a fantastic treatment option for eliminating horizontal brow lines. However, it is important to talk through your options with an experienced aesthetic practitioner to decide whether you’re an ideal candidate before having the procedure done.
